Pulp Mils increase Health Risks, ABC online, Australia
Pulp mills increase health risks, forum hears A public forum in Launceston has been told pulp mills are known to impact on the health of workers in them and people living nearby.
Dr Jim Markos from the Australian Lung Health Foundation was one of the speakers at a meeting in Launceston last night about the billion dollar pulp mill proposed for the Tamar Valley.
The meeting was organised by the Tamar Residents Action Committee.
Dr Markos says pulp mill workers are at a greater risk of developing cancers, asthma and dermatitis, and there are also health risks for people who live near pulp mills.
"People were more likely to complain of cough and headache twice as likely as those compared with other residents," he said.
